Fundraising Obligation: Tuition alone does not cover our operating expenses. To keep tuition low, our families help raise funds together. Though small fundraising events may occur throughout the year, the majority of NCCP fundraising obligation is met during the Spring Auction. Parents are responsible for procuring items for our auction OR paying cash/check equal to one month of your child’s tuition. Should you have more than one child enrolled, the fundraising commitment is paid in full for the oldest child but at 50% for the sibling. NOTE: Cash/Check buyouts are due at the same time as Procurement deadline set forth by the Auction Committee. In addition, each member of NCCP is required to purchase or sell 2 tickets to the Spring Auction per child enrolled. Ticket purchases due by March 1st.

This fee pays for our teaching staff that works in the classroom and supports parents with our parent education program. Our school tuition alone could not afford these amazing and educated teachers! They are also staff members of the PARED (short for Parent Education) department of Shoreline Community College. Paying your SCC fee lets these amazing educators of adults and children be in our school every day creating the most enriching and nutritive environment possible. The SCC course fee also pays for the college credits you earn through SCC at a HEAVILY discounted rate compared to other departments. Finally, it helps to pay for and organize our health and safety training, insurance for the school, coordination with other SCC co-op preschools, and much more! If you look at all the benefits we get for this small yearly fee per adult it’s somewhat astounding. That being said, EVERY ADULT that plans to be in the classroom needs to be registered with SCC and pay this fee so we are in compliance with the college and our insurance.

The Washington State Department of Health (WA DOH) requires we collect medically verified immunization records. All children enrolled in our school must provide a Certificate of Immunization Status or similar records or have a Certificate of Exemption on file before they can attend. We can only accept the records listed here. Unsure if your child is up to date on their vaccines required to attend child care? You can check on the vaccines that are required by age here. Parent’s typically find it easiest to request a Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) from their health care provider or print a CIS from the MyIR.net website. As of the 2022-2023 school year the WA DOH does not require children be vaccinated against COVID-19.

A member is a member of of our non-profit organization, North City Cooperative Preschool (NCCP). All nonprofit organizations have some sort of membership, our membership is our parents that work in the classrooms. This means that the parents involved in our school have a say in how the school runs! As a member you are expected to come to our Community Meetings (4 per year). These are actually fun little gatherings where you can meet and chat with other members and make decisions about the school. You are also expected to pay your tuition and fees and fulfill your fundraising obligation. Complete info on financial obligation amounts can be found in these FAQs. A large part of how we keep that tuition so low is our members are expected to do work on a committee. This typically takes about 2-3 hours a month outside of class and most committee work can be done on your own schedule. Committee work can be planning our all-school party for Halloween, making the monthly class schedule, or even organizing our art supplies and making play-doh for the kids! Committees are also a great way to meet parents that are not in your class. Everything our members do on committees helps us not hire someone to do those jobs and keeps our preschool fun, full of enriching things, and very affordable!

After we have confirmed receipt of your initial registration form, you can apply for a scholarship by submitting our scholarship application. Scholarships are based on need and availability of designated scholarship funds.
Want more info? Here is the nitty gritty:
At NCCP we offer classes for children ranging from age birth to 5 years old.
Our preschool is a nonprofit organization and is run by a diverse group of individuals who really understand what it’s like to have a child — it’s run by our amazing teachers with the help of all the parents!
One day a week you (or another caregiver of your child) will come to class with your child and act as an assistant teacher in the classroom. Our highly educated teaching staff will teach you all about effective parenting techniques, developmentally appropriate stages and behavior, and conflict resolution. You get to be involved in your child’s early education! You will spend quality time with your child and other children as they embrace a play based curriculum that will grow their brains and social/emotional skills.
You get college credit for coming to the classroom! You will gain 2 credits per quarter (3 for each Super Heroes class) from Shoreline Community College (SCC) for:
participating as an assistant teacher in the classroom (this is your college “lab” work)
having group sessions with our teaching staff and other parents in your class during your class work day. In these sessions you discuss parenting, early childhood development, and other topics applicable to your life. You will get some serious support and information about anything you are having trouble with or celebrate your parenting victories!
going to a few amazing speaker events where professionals in a wide range of child development topics are hired to share their wealth of knowledge with us!
If your child is in a multi-day class and it’s not your “day to stay” you can drop them off. Yes, that’s right, you can have some time to yourself! Sometimes this transition can be super hard, though. You can also choose to stay in the classroom with your child. If you are interested in learning how alleviate separation anxiety, our teachers can help! If not, you can always stay with your child anytime.
We have lots of class options including classes and class pairings suitable for different aged siblings. We also allow infants to accompany their parents to class (without additional fee or tuition) on the days they work in the classroom in a chest or back carrier. This all makes us very accessible for families with multiple children.
Worried because your child isn’t potty trained yet? DON’T BE! We do not require children be potty trained to attend. In fact, our teachers can work with your family to help with potty training!
You will create amazing relationships with other parents and families. You really get to know, through being in the classroom, school parties and field trips, and other school events, so many other fabulous families with children at the same stages as yours! We have a super social private community Facebook group for current families and alumni, and the possibilities for play dates are endless.
